Here we go again

It is just over ten months since we finished our trip to Paris; and what an eventful ten months it has been. Bruce returned to St John's as a Visiting Fellow and then stayed on as Dean of Studies until the end of 2006. In December we went to Melbourne to see the Boxing Day Test in which we compehensively trounced the English side. We were fortunate enough to see Shane Warne get his 700th wicket. The crowd was huge and we particularly enjoyed the antics of the "Barmy Army," many of whom were staying at the same hotel as we were.
Then it was back to Sydney for Bruce to teach in the St John's Summer School. He continues his association with the college having agreed to take on the position of Director of the Summer School.

And now the year has come round and we are off to Paris again. First we will spend a week in London. Bruce recently came into possession of some old playbills and programmes from a trip he made to London in 1970 and it has whetted his appetite for theatre. Unfortunately the days when tickets were 7/6, as the programmes from 1970 indicate, are long gone. We are flying to London with Singapore Airlines and have heard only good things about them. Unfortunately we fly out on the first day of the new and I think rather draconian new regulations. We'll report back on them.

From London we will go to Paris via the Eurostar and, hopefully, the trip will be less eventful than last year (see our post of 11 April 2006 for the details of that particular nightmare).
Virginia is going to study French and has enrolled in a school within walking distance of our flat. For the last month or so we have had the guide books down trying to decide just what we are going to do in Paris this year. It's not as if there isn't plenty to do; the difficulty is in deciding just what to include.

It is quite nice returning to Paris after having stayed in a flat. We feel quite "at home" in Montmartre and are looking forward to seeing the shops and shopkeepers we got to know last year. Bruce is particularly looking forward to revisiting the local boulangerie. He is completely addicted to baguettes, not to mention the glorious sweets that seem to be the staple "snack" of Parisians. We'll continue this as we move closer to our departure.
